Fiji in 5 days: travel itinerary

Fiji is a corner of the vast southern nature on land and in the ocean. A trip to distant shores will be impressive, especially if you don’t like to sit still. Day 1. Arrival at Nadi International Airport on Viti Levu - transfer to Vanua Levu

Vanua Levu - Sandalwood Paradise with incredible mountain scenery and authentic culture. This is the second largest island of Fiji, after Viti Levu. The domestic flight from the main airport lasts about an hour. Here you will discover the real Fiji, where there is not only the unique nature of the archipelago, but also authenticity. Vanua Levu offers mountain landscapes, lush forests and plantations, picturesque bays and coastal coral reefs. Upon arrival, devote time to rest and the surroundings of your hotel. They will be impressive in any case, because Vanua Levu is considered the most beautiful island of Fiji.

Day 2. Getting to know Vanua Levu

The main resort town of the island is Savusavu . From here, your trip around the island will be the most successful. From Savusavu, tourist routes and tours of all directions are laid, which start from a picturesque bay surrounded by mountain ranges and the ocean. Savusavu is called "Fiji's hidden paradise". We recommend devoting time to diving or snorkeling , because the calling card of these places at all times has been the marine nature. Vanua Levu is also an ideal place for trekking and car travel .

Day 3. Taveuni Island and Bouma National Heritage Park

The best opportunity to appreciate the unique nature of a tropical paradise is to visit the pristine island of Taveuni , east of Vanua Levu . It can safely be called one of the most authentic of all the local islands of Fiji. Taveuni has its own airstrip and receives domestic flights. The island is located at a distance of 30 minutes flight from Vanua Levu airport . This is a real island reserve, as 80% of its territory Taveuni is the National Park of Fiji. The main riches here are the pristine jungle and mountain waterfalls.

Taveuni is one of the most popular ecotourism locations in Fiji. The park has several routes with picturesque trails. At the end of the walks, a swim in the Bouma Falls is a must . The Garden Island and Bouma National Park would be a good option for a day trip from Vanua Levu , which is separated from Taveuni by a strait on the west side .

Day 4. Ovalau Island and the first capital of Fiji

On the way to Viti Levu and the airport, stop for a day in the secluded corner of Ovalau , where you will be charmed by the village life and Levuka , the only UNESCO site in Fiji at present . Bureta Airport on Ovalau is located 22 kilometers from the main town. There is no direct flight from Vanua Levu to Ovalau . You will need to change planes in Suva. The total transfer time, including the flight connections, is about 1.5 hours.

Levuka is the first civilized city in the traditional sense and the former capital of Fiji. Its development began in the early 19th century, with the arrival of the European colonization era on the islands. Once upon a time, there was a trepang trade center here, the first bank in Fiji, Methodist churches, warehouses and institutions were opened. With the development of the city and the growth of the population, the space became less and less, and in 1877 the capital was moved to Suva. Since then, time has stood still in Levuka . The preserved city of the tropical island preserves the European architecture of a century ago. For this feature, Levuka was included in the list of UNESCO protected sites and has become a significant landmark of Fiji. Tours from all corners of the archipelago are sent here.

Day 5. Viti Levu and the best locations

All trips to Fiji begin and end with Viti Levu. It is a large and modern island of the archipelago, which nevertheless has the same beautiful nature. Before heading to the airport and home, devote time to the most striking places of central Fiji. It is impossible to see all of Viti Levu in one day, so it is worth distributing your precious time usefully.

Coral Coast . On the southwest coast of Viti Levu is one of the main resort centers of Fiji. It is as much as 80 kilometers between the main cities of Suva and Nadi. Picturesque coastline with rich coral reefs. All kinds of resorts of world hotels along the perimeter, excursions, entertainment and establishments for every taste are here in abundance.
