By air
The most popular and convenient way to get to Bali is by air.
Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport, is located 13 km from the city of the same name, which is the capital of Bali. It is the second busiest international airport in Indonesia after Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta. In 2016, it was among the top three airports in the world for the quality of passenger service.
The airport is connected by highway to Denpasar and Nusa Dua and receives flights from all over the world. There are direct flights from many major cities such as Dubai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo and many others. Travelers from Europe and America often make a transfer in one of the major Asian cities such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong.
For example:
- From Europe, popular flights are via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
- From the USA, you can fly to Bali via Singapore or Hong Kong.
- From Japan, there is a direct flight from Tokyo.
- From Australia, there are many direct flights from various cities: Perth, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Melbourne.
An alternative option is to fly to Jakarta, from where there are regular direct flights to Bali. The distance between Jakarta and Bali is a little over 1,000 kilometers. To cover this distance, you can also use a train or bus service, but such a journey will be quite long and tiring.
