Amlapura - Bali's tourist gem

Amlapura, once known as Kuta Negara Karangasem, is the historic heart of East Bali. The city was renamed in 1963 after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Agung, which significantly damaged the region. The new name, Amlapura (from the Indonesian words "amla" - fruit, and "pura" - place), symbolized a fresh start and rebirth.

For centuries, Amlapura served as the residence of the Karangasem royal family, one of Bali's most influential dynasties. The legacy of this era can still be felt in every corner of the city, especially in its magnificent palaces. Today, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and even traces of Chinese trading culture harmoniously blend here, giving it a unique character.

It is worth noting that Amlapura has won the Adipura Award for being the cleanest small town in Indonesia several times in a row.
