  4. Seychelles weather: seasons, temperature by months

In winter and summer, the Seychelles are equally warm: the air temperature is always stable. After all, the Seychelles are located south of the equator. However, the climate is more tropical than equatorial. This means that the change of seasons occurs smoothly and almost imperceptibly, and the average air temperature during the year differs slightly.

Rain season

The rainy season lasts from November to February and is characterized by frequent tropical storms and high levels of humidity. This time of year is usually warmer, but there is little difference between the months. Rains often fall in the late afternoon.

Dry season

The Seychelles experience dry and cooler weather from June to September. The trade winds are the culprit. Tropical storms can still drop in, but they tend to be less severe and come in during the evening hours, making days less wet and generally more pleasant. At this time of the year, you can go hiking, windsurfing or observing the inhabitants of the Seychelles.

Seychelles in December-March (low season)

From December to March, the north western trade winds bring temperatures of +27…+28 degrees to the island. Rain showers predominate in December and January. They are strong but short-lived, and the sun returns in about 30 minutes. However, this does not prevent tourists from visiting the islands in December and January. Prices for hotels and trips can rise during the winter holidays, so book your hotel in advance.

Seychelles in April and November (best time)

There are no trade winds in April and November, so these are the hottest months of the year. The temperature can reach +30 degrees. Due to the lack of breeze, the humidity in the Seychelles is slightly above average. Therefore, the heat is felt more strongly. The lack of wind provides excellent visibility for diving. Snorkelling and scuba diving are excellent during this period. And hotels are cheaper.

Seychelles in April-November (high season)

The temperature ranges from +25 to +29 degrees. From May to early October comes the time of the southeast trade winds. There is practically no rain. The days are sunny and hot, with pleasant breezes created by the trade winds. Sailing, hiking and windsurfing enthusiasts will enjoy the perfect weather. But for snorkelling, it is not suitable: because of the trade winds, the ocean is not so calm, and visibility is reduced. The exception is April, October and November. If you are planning a trip in the summer, book rooms in advance so as not to overpay for high season prices.

Monthly weather in the Seychelles

January

This is the height of the Seychelles summer, when the maximum values are observed on all "fronts": temperature, humidity and rainfall. Regardless, December and January are popular travel times in the Seychelles due to the holiday season. But if you want to avoid the rain, a trip to the Maldives is worth considering.

February

The rainy season continues, but there is less rainfall than in January or December. February marks the middle of hawksbill turtle hatching season, which typically runs from January to March. Watching hundreds of tiny turtles make their way to the water from their nests is an amazing sight. But some beaches may be closed to improve their chances of survival.

March

At the end of the month, the northwest monsoon ends. This means that there will be less rain, but temperatures will still be high. Rains are usually short, but quite strong.

April

There is practically no wind. In April, the temperature rises - this is one of the hottest months. It is dry and great for visiting the Seychelles. If diving or snorkelling is your thing, head to the Seychelles in April to make the most of the perfect underwater visibility. But because of the heat, you will have to spend time in the shade of a palm tree or in the Indian Ocean, instead of taking walks.

May

With the return of the winds, this time from the southeast, the humidity drops, but the temperature in the Seychelles remains at +20…+30 degrees. This is another great month for snorkelling or diving in warm waters and excellent visibility. Rains still happen, but they pass quickly.

June

In June, the temperature in the Seychelles drops a little, but still stays at around +20 degrees. The wind is getting stronger, which pleases surfers and windsurfers.

July

July is another dry month, but quite windy. The beaches on the northern and western coasts of the islands are relatively sheltered from the wind. This is a very popular time to visit the Seychelles as it is the rainy season in the Maldives and Thailand.

August

August is another popular month in the Seychelles due to European school holidays. It is usually quite dry here, however this is one of the windiest times of the year and conditions on the south and east coasts of the islands may not be suitable for swimming. There may also be more algae washed ashore during this time.

September

In September, the winds subside, but a cool breeze from the southeast will still blow. The average temperature in the Seychelles is +27 degrees. Since September marks the end of the school summer holidays in Europe, this is a great time to get a good discount on making the most of the weather.

October

If you love snorkelling and diving, October is the best time to visit the Seychelles. Visibility underwater is the best as it is a "window" between the southeast and northwest trade winds.

November

In November, the wind changes direction from the southeast to the northwest, and the amount of precipitation increases. The sea is still relatively calm and visibility for snorkelling and diving will remain good.

December

The northwest trade winds, which arrive in November, bring rain in December, which is why the islands are so lush and green. Although this is not the best time to visit the Seychelles in terms of weather, it is a popular time of year to travel, especially around Christmas and New Years.
