This is an atoll island surrounded by coral reefs and motu, in the center of which lies a dormant volcano. Bora Bora is composed almost entirely of basaltic lava. Only small islands around are of coral origin. It is also called the island of three peaks - the higher Otemanu (727 m) and Pahia (661 m), as well as Mataihua (314 m), which form an ancient crater.

Together with Tupai, Bora Bora forms one of the Leeward Islands of French Polynesia. There are no cities here, and the administrative center is the village of Vaitape, with an airport and a pier.

The core of the island, or a single piece of land, covers an area of 38 km². The population is almost 9 thousand people. It has an elongated shape, where the longest part reaches 9 km, and the widest land area reaches 5 km. Bora Bora is surrounded by a ring road, so car trips or bike rides along the coastline are very popular here, especially since the surrounding landscapes amaze everyone.
