Bel Ombre is a picturesque district located on the northwest coast of Mahé Island, the largest and main island of the Seychelles archipelago. Situated approximately 8 kilometers from the capital, Victoria, and adjacent to the famous Beau Vallon Beach, Bel Ombre is renowned for its natural beauty and stunning coastline. From the coast, the district rises to the central highlands, reaching an altitude of 881 meters with the Trois Feres mountain range. The name Bel Ombre means "beautiful shade," likely referring to its location in the shade, as the district is surrounded by mountains, hills, and valleys.

What to see in Bel Ombre
Among the area's main attractions are its beautiful beaches, distinguished by soft sand and clear turquoise water. For nature lovers, the nearby Morne Seychellois National Park offers opportunities for hiking and exploring the diverse flora and fauna. The park's trails lead adventurers through lush tropical forests to elevated viewpoints offering panoramic views of the island and ocean.
The starting point for the popular Anse Major hike is also located here. This relatively easy, approximately 3-kilometer-long hiking trail winds along the coastline, over granite slopes, through tropical forests, and ends at the picturesque Anse Major beach. A visit to this beach will reward your efforts. After enjoying the beach and taking memorable photos, you can return along the same trail or take a boat taxi, which arrives at the beach every hour and returns to Bel Ombre, the trailhead.
Local hotels can also offer other routes that will take you through mountain forests and offer scenic views of Beau Vallon Bay, Silhouette Island, and other attractions.

Excursions and entertainment
Thanks to the abundant marine life and clear waters, snorkeling, diving, and fishing are popular here. Boat excursions allow you to explore neighboring islands and secluded beaches. Numerous local tour operators offer convenient all-inclusive packages for visiting the islands of Praslin, La Digue, Silhouette, the Bay of St. Anne Marine Park, and other interesting destinations. Water enthusiasts can visit the nearby Beau Vallon Beach, known for its variety of water activities.
Tourists can also enjoy tours of local villages and visits to historical sites. A short taxi ride will take you to the Seychelles capital and its key attractions. Thanks to the city's compact size, you can take a fascinating tour of its iconic sites in just half a day.
In the evenings, many hotels in the north of the island offer a lively atmosphere in their beach bars and restaurants, including live music and DJs, especially on weekends. Every Wednesday evening, tourists and locals gather at the Labrin Market, located near Beau Vallon Beach. This weekly open-air market invites you to sample traditional dishes at affordable prices and browse the stalls of local artisans. You'll find fragrant delicacies grilled right before your eyes, and the atmosphere is enhanced by the sounds of Creole music performed by street musicians.
