The Bukit Peninsula is the southern tip of Bali, where the ocean meets rocky cliffs and the landscape gives a special dynamic to the journey. This is where you will find the island’s best surf spots, diverse beaches, Uluwatu Temple, and many places with ocean views. The region combines a calm pace of life with opportunities for active recreation, remaining one of the most recognizable areas of Bali.

What to do in Bukit
There is more than enough choice of activities and places worth visiting on the Bukit Peninsula.
Surfing
Bukit is known as one of Indonesia’s leading surfing regions. The main feature is reef breaks and stable ocean swells, which make the local spots attractive for riders of different levels.
- Uluwatu - one of the most famous surf spots in Indonesia. The reef structure creates long waves suitable for experienced surfers. It works mainly at mid and high tide.
- Padang Padang - this spot is for confident surfers: the waves here are fast and require experience.
- Bingin - popular with surfers who are looking for a steady wave and photogenic riding. Bingin is known for almost perfect barrels in the right conditions. Since the descent to this beach is by a steep staircase, plan your visit with this in mind.
- Dreamland and Balangan - these locations are often chosen by beginners and intermediate surfers. The waves here are less demanding, and surf schools offer lessons for those going into the ocean for the first time.

Beach holiday
Bukit’s beaches are different from the usual sandy areas of Bali. Many of them are hidden at the foot of cliffs and can be reached by stairs or winding roads, but in return these places offer scenic views and clean water.
- Pandawa - a popular and well-equipped beach for family holidays. There is parking, sunbed, kayak and bicycle rental, toilets, showers, and warungs.
- Balangan - a beach known for colorful sunsets, scenic cliffs, and white sand. It is one of the most beautiful on the Bukit Peninsula. There are areas with sharp coral reefs, so caution is needed.
- Nusa Dua - a well-kept beach with upscale resorts, perfect for swimming, water sports, and family holidays.
- Green Bowl - a beach for those who want privacy. A long staircase leads down to it, and the bay itself stands out for clean water and a calm atmosphere. There is parking, with warungs, toilets, and showers nearby.
- Gunung Payung - a lesser-known, photogenic, and secluded beach with clear water and a good reef for snorkeling lovers.

Golf
Lovers of this noble game will enjoy an international-class golf course that is among the best and most challenging in Asia. New Kuta Golf Club, covering 85 hectares, stretches across the south-west edge of the Bukit Peninsula on the territory of the Pecatu Indah resort. The golf club has a restaurant, bar, spa, and banquet halls with panoramic views of the surroundings.

Sights in Bukit
The peninsula has a number of cultural attractions that are definitely worth attention.
Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu)
A temple at the edge of the land. One of the most scenic temples in Bali and the main historical site of Bukit, located on a cliff about 70 meters above the ocean. The ocean view, the wind, and the rocks all come together to create an impressive atmosphere.
On the open stage next to the temple, an evening performance - the Kecak dance - is regularly held, performed by 50 men accompanied by a choir. The dance tells the story of the Ramayana and fascinates with its energy.

Transport and getting around Bukit
Bukit is located close to Ngurah Rai Airport, so the trip to the coast takes very little time. Use:
- Hotel transfer. If you stay at a comfortable hotel or villa, airport transfer is often included. This is the easiest and most painless way to get to your accommodation: the driver will meet you, help with your luggage, and you will avoid the taxi drivers waiting at the airport exits.
- Taxi / ridesharing. If a transfer is not provided, you can use local Grab or Gojek services, the local equivalents of Uber. They can be ordered right from the airport.

There are several ways to move around the peninsula:
- Car with driver - cheaper, safer, and easier, especially when visiting several places in one day.
- Car rental - theoretically possible, but it requires an international driving permit and careful driving: roads are narrow in places and traffic conditions in Bali are not simple.
- Scooter - the most budget-friendly option, but also the riskiest: roads, surface quality, and traffic often create dangerous conditions.
