The best time to travel is from May to October. The average annual temperature ranges from 24°C to 34°C. The hot season begins in November-December and lasts until April, while the dry and cooler season comes in May and lasts until October/November. In November-April the sea is usually very calm, while from May to October winds blow and raise high waves.

The history of North Island

Now North has turned into an oasis with an elite hotel. But this island became a resort relatively recently, and before that its history developed in a not very favorable way.

North Island was one of the first corners discovered by Europeans in the Seychelles archipelago. It was used for growing coconuts. In the 19th century, flora and fauna that were not typical for the region were brought here. Over time, the coconut plantation damaged the ecology, pushing out local species. Only at the end of the 20th century was a restoration program developed for this unique island. Now takamaka trees, cape trees and Seychelles palms grow here.

In 2002, North was turned into a luxury resort. Thanks to this, it became possible to implement many large-scale projects for the preservation of nature and animals, financed from the profits of hotel activities.

Volunteer activities

Interestingly, Wildlife ACT gives the opportunity to work as a volunteer on North Island as an eco tourist. The volunteer project in Seychelles focuses on three key aspects: monitoring endangered species, marine conservation and ecosystem restoration. Participation is paid, and the duration is from 4 to 8 weeks. There are age restrictions for participants - from 21 to 60 years old. North Island is located five kilometers north of Silhouette Island and 30 kilometers northwest of Mahe.

How to get to North Island

Guests arrive on North Island by helicopter, the trip takes twenty minutes from Mahe. The owners of North Island insist on this transfer so that rats and other pests do not accidentally get onto the island. So it is impossible to reach the island by boat.
