Summer in Europe is the season of warmth, holidays, and beach rest. But on the island of Mauritius, located in the Southern Hemisphere, everything is the opposite: in June, July, and August, the island welcomes guests with a mild tropical winter. This is one of the calmest, most comfortable, and most predictable periods for travel, when temperatures drop to pleasant levels, the ocean stays warm, and prices are often lower than peak ones.

Summer weather in Mauritius
From June to August, the air temperature on the coasts of Mauritius stays around 22-26°C during the day, and drops to 17-20°C at night. Humidity in this season is much lower than in summer, and rains are less frequent and usually do not last long. That is why many travelers consider this period the most optimal for a holiday.
The water temperature remains comfortable: 22-25°C. Sometimes it may feel a little fresh in the morning, but during the day swimming is pleasant and safe - the ocean is calmer in winter.

Holidays in Mauritius in summer: where to stay
The south-eastern trade winds create noticeable differences between the coasts. If you know these details, you can choose the most comfortable region.
West coast (Flic-en-Flac, Tamarin, Wolmar). The west is protected from the winds by the mountain relief, so this is where the weather is most stable: warmer than in the east and south, much less wind, calm lagoons, and beautiful sunsets. This is the most comfortable option for family holidays, the beach, and snorkeling.
North (Grand Baie, Pereybere). The north is also protected from the trade winds, so the climate here is mild and the wind is minimal. There is also developed infrastructure - restaurants, bars, and shops. This part is loved by those who want to combine a beach holiday with lively activities.
East (Belle Mare, Palmar). The east coast is fully open to the south-eastern winds. That is why in winter it can be windier and cooler here, with fresher evenings. A holiday here suits those who value privacy, luxury hotels, and surfing activities.
South and south-west (Le Morne, Bel Ombre). The south also gets more wind in winter, which makes it less suitable for the beach, but ideal for kiters and lovers of wind and drive.

What to do in Mauritius in summer
In the summer months, Mauritius opens from a different side: for many tourists this is not beach drive, but calm enjoyment of nature and the moderate climate, evening walks, a light breeze, quietness, and beautiful nature.
You can go to the mountains. Climbing to the peaks will give cool air and a panorama. Visit waterfalls and natural parks, go for a walk to reefs and lagoons where the water is still warm and clear, explore the island by car, enjoy slow evenings and sunsets by the ocean.
Kitesurfing and windsurfing
One of the main features of this period is the stable wind, ideal for kite- and windsurfing. There are many schools on the island that carefully teach the basics to beginners. Among lovers of wind sports, places such as Le Morne (south-west), Anse La Raie (north-east), and Poste Lafayette (east) are popular. Events dedicated to kitesurfing are organized, which further attracts adrenaline lovers.

Snorkeling, diving, boat trips
The ocean remains warm enough, and the water stays clear, so snorkeling and diving in Mauritius are relevant at almost any time of year.
Besides this, catamaran and boat trips are popular: you can go to nearby islands, on a sea excursion, or simply lie on board and look at the ocean.

Watching marine life
Summer in Mauritius is a good time for sea excursions to meet dolphins, whales, and sperm whales. August-September are peak periods for watching humpback whales. Boat excursions with marine mammal watching can become one of the most memorable experiences.

Nature, trekking, and adventures on land
When the heat goes down, traveling deeper into the island becomes much more pleasant. Tropical winter is a great time for hikes and walks. The mild climate allows you to walk comfortably in the forests, climb mountains, and explore the best natural places in Mauritius.
Good options to visit are Black River Gorges National Park, Mount Le Morne Brabant, Le Pouce mountain, as well as many hills and viewpoints, forests and trails, walks through which in the wet and hot season could be too exhausting.
