The Maldives pioneered the world’s first underwater restaurants. With warm seas year-round, vibrant corals, and diverse marine life, it’s the perfect place to build venues with panoramic windows to admire the beauty of the lagoons. Why not enjoy your favorite dishes in an exquisite restaurant while taking in the view? Beyond underwater restaurants, the Maldives also boasts underwater villas and even spas.

How to Visit an Underwater Restaurant in the Maldives
As of this article’s writing, there are only seven underwater restaurants in the Maldives, each belonging to a specific resort. To dine at one, you must book a villa at the resort, where you can reserve a table for a convenient date. Alternatively, you may stay at a nearby island resort that has agreements for visiting the underwater restaurant, though such islands are few.
Accessing an underwater restaurant in the Maldives isn’t straightforward. Here are the three main challenges:
- The distance between resort islands, often requiring a 30–40 minute speedboat ride or up to 1.5 hours by local airlines.
- The privacy maintained by resorts, where dining at the underwater restaurant is primarily a privilege for resort guests.
- Limited seating, often just a few tables, as the construction, maintenance, and safety of an underwater restaurant are highly costly.

How to Book a Table at an Underwater Restaurant
To dine at an underwater restaurant in the Maldives, you need to book a stay at the resort that owns the restaurant. A few other resorts collaborate with these restaurants, offering access as well. Contact our manager via online chat to check if your chosen resort offers this opportunity.
Reservations must be made in advance, especially during the Maldives’ peak season (late December to early March), as demand is high and seating is limited. To secure a table on your desired dates, book several months ahead. When reserving your hotel, inform our manager of your preferred dining date, and we’ll gladly arrange the reservation for you.
Below is a list of Maldives resorts with underwater restaurants.
