If the Maldives used to be seen only as a place for romance, “islands for two”, today concepts for solo travellers are developing actively here: from special “Solo Serenity” packages in luxury hotels to hostels and guesthouses on local islands.
Wondering whether it is worth flying to the Maldives alone? It is a great idea! The islands have many places where you can join different activities every day, go to parties, or hide from the whole world while enjoying programmes for healing body and soul.

InterContinrutal Maldives Maamunagau
In January 2026, the hotel introduced its “Solo Serenity” collection, which completely changes the way solo travel holidays are perceived. Instead of feeling awkward among couples at romantic dinners, you immerse yourself in a programme designed specifically for self-discovery and networking.
- The hotel offers personal wellness rituals and culinary tastings at a “shared table”, where you meet people in a relaxed atmosphere.
- This is the first and only resort where absolutely all guests have access to Club InterContinrutal privileges. This means your day is filled with different rituals: afternoon tea with refined snacks, evening cocktails and light drinks by the pool are included in the price.
- The island is located next to a unique manta ray reserve, and there is a marine biology centre here, with individual or group ocean expeditions available.

Hard Rock Hotel Maldives
This is the most dynamic hotel within the CROSSROADS complex. For a solo traveller, it is an ideal option because you are not locked on one small island. Guests move across the bridge to the neighbouring marina island, where life is buzzing: cafés, shops, Hard Rock Cafe with live music and crowds of people from all over the world. A kind of city on the water.
Everything here is infused with music. You can order a Fender guitar or a vinyl record player to your room free of charge. The hotel has a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school and fitness programmes that are great for finding new friends with similar interests.

W Maldives
If you are afraid of silence and boredom, W Maldives is your place. The hotel lives by the motto “Luxury Social”. There are many areas where DJs set the rhythm of the day, and the staff can organise any activity - from night diving to a private party.
The hotel is famous for its house reef, one of the best in the country, where you can see sharks and turtles just by stepping into the lagoon from your villa terrace. For those who want to shake off stress, the futuristic AWAY spa centre is open, and at night the Maldives’ only underground club, 15 BELOW, opens its doors. Stations with free ice cream and cold drinks are placed around the island.

Nova Maldives
The “Soulful Maldives” concept makes Nova an ideal place for those looking for communication and simplicity. Solo travellers will find it easy to blend into the group: beach volleyball games, group sunset yoga sessions and evening gatherings are held here all the time.
Nova is located right in the centre of the whale shark habitat, on an idyllic island in Ari Atoll. This means you can go on a sea trip and see marine giants in any month of the year. The hotel works on an all-inclusive basis - enjoy a variety of cuisine from Japanese teppanyaki to local seafood.

Cora Cora Maldives
The hotel’s concept is “freedom to be yourself”. You will not feel lonely or bored here. The hotel is located on the beautiful green island of Maamigili in Raa Atoll. Along with the usual privileges of a 5-star Maldives resort, Cora Cora has its own licensed Museum of History and art gallery, as well as an original beach club by the pool. Spend your time usefully at Moksha Spa.
The hotel works on a premium all-inclusive basis, which lets you try everything - from Italian cuisine to Asian street food - without looking at the price menu.

Kandima Maldives
This is not just a resort, it is a real “island city”. Kandima creates a dynamic holiday atmosphere with adventures and new discoveries. The island stretches for 3 kilometres, and shuttles run around it all the time. For a solo traveller, this means endless choice: today you can go to the art studio and paint with a local artist, tomorrow sign up for cooking school.
In the evenings, Kandima turns into an entertainment centre with live music, karaoke and themed parties.

The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives
The hotel organises shared breakfasts for solo travellers, karaoke battles and night swims with snorkelling guides. At The Standard, you will feel as if you have arrived at a stylish resort somewhere in Miami, but with Maldives white sand.
One of the resort’s brightest features is Beru Bar with its transparent dance floor set right above the water - this is the epicentre of nightlife. There is also an excellent hammam here and an inflatable water park right in the lagoon, where adults have no less fun than children.

Finolhu, a Seaside Collection Resort
If you miss the Ibiza atmosphere, this is the place for you. This is a retro-chic hotel with very lively energy. The island’s entertainment centre is the Beach Club, where acrobats, fire eaters and world-famous DJs perform. Themed parties take place here all the time. If you want privacy, you can book the transparent Beach Bubble room for one night right on the sand. The incredible 2-kilometre sandbank seems made for solo walks while enjoying the surrounding sea views.
Among other leisure options, Finolhu offers the chance to immerse yourself in the underwater world of the amazing Hanifaru Bay and get closer to manta rays.

Amilla Maldives Resort and Residences
This is the perfect place for a wellness retreat alone with yourself. The island is very large, green and spacious, which gives a feeling of complete freedom. You can take a bike and ride for hours along shaded jungle paths without meeting anyone on your way. The Wellness Your Way programme allows you to tailor the menu and activities to your goals, from detox to sleep recovery.
The eco-resort grows organic vegetables and offers a unique open-air jungle tour. For those who want an unusual experience, there are villas designed like tree houses, set above the ground among lush canopies.

Gili Lankanfushi
This is a hotel for those who want to slow down and be alone in absolute comfort. The main highlight of the place is your personal assistant, “Mr Friday”. He does not just carry out requests, but becomes your guide around the island. The resort also has a wonderful location, just 20 minutes by boat from the airport.
The No News, No Shoes philosophy rules here, encouraging you to forget gadgets and footwear. The island is home to the world’s largest overwater cinema and an organic garden where you can arrange a private dinner. If you want complete privacy, the Crusoe villas stand separately in the sea and are not connected to the island by walkways. You can reach them only by boat.

JOALI BEING
This is the only island in the Maldives completely dedicated to wellness. The standards and the very idea of relaxation on a tropical island are different here. The whole focus is shifted to health, both spiritual and physical. On arrival, each guest undergoes deep biometric diagnostics. The holiday programme is created by naturopaths, nutritionists and other specialists.
It is ideal for a solo holiday aimed at getting back into balance. The highlight of JOALI BEING is sound therapy: a space with 15 instruments where healing is based on sound vibrations. There is also herbology - Herbology Cruter - where therapists create personal blends of oils and teas based on individual vitamin deficiencies. Hydrotherapy, salt rooms, sensory deprivation and other exclusive wellness options are also available.

Velaa Private Island
This is one of the most expensive resorts in the Maldives. The island’s main privilege is complete privacy. You may not meet other guests at all here - the villas stand at a huge distance from each other and have private pools and extensive garden areas.
Holidays at Velaa Private Island follow the format of “quiet luxury”, which appeals to introverts and travellers in search of the perfect refuge for a digital detox. Wellness programmes are led by world-class experts using high-tech equipment to assess the condition of the body. There are also many unusual and ultra-modern treatments here that make time fly by.

Maldives local islands for solo holidays
Budget holidays in the Maldives are always about beaches and hotels on inhabited islands, where tourists are closer to local culture while nature keeps all its charm. Where will it be comfortable and interesting if you are flying to the Maldives for a solo trip? Below are several destinations.
- Maafushi. The most developed tourist island. There are many small hotels here, such as Kaani Beach Hotel. A lot of solo travellers come to the island, and it is not a problem to find company for excursions.
- Dhigurah. A small island with excellent opportunities. There are hotels here that organise group trips out to sea.
- Thulusdhoo. A mecca for surfers. A relaxed hostel atmosphere reigns here, where everyone gathers around a shared table in the evening.
It is worth noting that solo travellers often have to pay more, since rooms are usually designed for two. But you can find better-value “No Single Supplement” offers - without extra charge for single occupancy. In low season, from May to October, some hotels remove the surcharge for solo travellers to fill rooms.

Is it safe to be alone in the Maldives?
The Maldives are one of the safest destinations in the world. So yes, you can travel alone quite calmly. But it is worth distinguishing between two types of islands: resort islands and local islands, where local residents live.
At a resort, safety is complete. There are no outside threats here, and the staff are trained to discreetly support solo women. You can ask for a female escort for evening walks if that makes you feel more comfortable.
On local islands, it is also safe in terms of crime, but cultural features should be taken into account. Local residents are very friendly to tourists. But the Maldives are a Muslim country. Outside bikini beaches, shoulders and knees should be covered, and you should not swim in regular swimwear in other areas. It is also worth taking time to read about alcohol in the Maldives, which, for understandable reasons, is prohibited on local islands.
